Semax

Neurotrophic signaling, cognition, ischemia models, and neurotransmitter regulation

Synthetic ACTH-fragment-derived heptapeptide

Not FDA-approved in the United States; used/approved in some countries

Overview

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from a short ACTH-related sequence and modified for greater stability. Research has examined neurotrophic factors such as BDNF and NGF, dopaminergic and serotonergic signaling, oxidative stress, neuroplasticity, learning, and models of cerebral ischemia. Much of the human clinical literature originates from Russia and nearby regions. Apex should distinguish experimental neuroprotection findings from established U.S. clinical indications.

How it works

checkCreated with Sketch.

Neurotrophic signaling: Experimental studies report changes in BDNF, NGF, and pathways involved in synaptic plasticity.

checkCreated with Sketch.

Monoamine systems: Research examines dopaminergic and serotonergic signaling.

Ischemic-stress response: Animal and regional clinical studies have explored neuronal survival and recovery after cerebral ischemia.

Research / study context

one

Animal studies: Behavioral, molecular, and ischemia models measure cognition, neurotrophic factors, and neuronal injury.

two

Regional clinical research: Studies have evaluated neurologic recovery and cognitive outcomes, primarily outside the United States.

Key research findings

checkCreated with Sketch.

Semax has meaningful mechanistic literature but limited large multinational trials.
